The Mackland Project is a new home that was constructed on an existing inner city lot located in the popular UNM/Nob Hill/Altura Park neighborhoods.

The 2600 SF home is a single story home that includes 3 bedrooms and a study, with two and 1/2 baths. The kitchen is enormous by modern standards but a lot of activity occurs in this area. Cooking, baking, arts and crafts activities, homework and entertaining are the primary functions of the space.

The design of the home solved many existing site issues with simple clean lines. This is not a remake of a historical “themed” style it is a uniquely designed home for this site, at this time, for a specific family.

The house was pressed against the east side of the lot and the entry was placed to face the neighborhood and provide a large entry patio to provide a comfortable, sunny place to sit and observe neighborhood activities. Every item placed in the home is evaluated for benefit.

A large receiving place that is light filled provides a welcoming entry where guests can be greeted and remove coats and get orientated. It is a space that sets the tone for the whole house. It is bright and open.

The house is assymetrical in layout responding to a unique set of functional relationships. A spacious “gallery” connects the entry, the greatroom, the kitchen, and the dining area. The resulting openness of the plan is just enough to add interest but provide privacy.
