Double Six Museum
Renovation and Addition

The original 4800 gross square foot buildings that were to house the Cibola Arts Council offices and exhibition space and shop were in very poor condition. The City of Grants, who funded this project, wanted a conservative solution that would allow for phasing of improvements with a $450,000 budget. The project needed to function well for the new users and look better. Previously, the buildings housed a daycare center. A future phase will address some of the continuing exterior challenges.

The complex of three buildings were actually two individual concrete block structures with the space between filled in with framing to create additional space. The existing substandard roof structures of two of the three buildings were improved.

Remodeling also provided for modifying the exterior walls to meet required energy codes. All buildings were basically gutted down to the structure to provide for the open spaces needed for an exhibition space. Additional lighting and improved mechanical systems were also part of this project.

This project required renovation and a small addition to house additional restrooms, mechanical rooms, and other requirements. This very complex project was completed within budget.
